Main Discussions
1. Booking a Neutral Green
2. Captains Day & Captains Charity Day
3. Silverwood School
4. Markers Course (Saturday 22nd July)
5. Visit by St Nicholas School (Saturday 19th August)
6. Having a set day for BW Ladies Leagues and NW Ladies Leagues for home games
7. What’s new in 2024?
1. The Bowls Committee will be notified regarding any requests for booking a neutral green. The Committee will make sure there is someone available to set up and clear away the equipment required, meet with the players to give them access to the Club, collect the appropriate rink fees, and offer hospitality after the game if required.
2. The Bowls Committee had a meeting with the two Captains regarding the Captains Day and Captains Charity Day. The date for Captains Charity Day has now been decided, it will be held on 12th August.
The date given in the Fixture Book for Captains Day will need to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances. Thetwo Captains will discuss alternative dates.
3. A request had been received from Nigel Morgan (Bowls Wiltshire Development Officer) to hold a taster session during July for pupils from Silverwood School, but as it has been difficult to find a suitable date, they have decided to cancel it for this year and we will keep it in mind for next year.
4. The Club has been booked for a Markers Course, arranged by Nigel Morgan and the EBUA for Saturday 22nd July. Twenty-two bowlers from various Wiltshire Clubs who had pre-booked a place on-line will be attending. Dave and Marie Greenwood will offer coffee on arrival and Alison Brooks will take orders for filled rolls on the day. The course will run from 9.30am – 4.30pm.
5. St Nicholas Church, Sevenoaks, have approached Duncan to ask if they could have a taster bowling session for a group staying at Braeside in August. This has been arranged for Saturday 19th August. The group will consist of approximately thirty 15-18 year olds and fifteen adults. They will arrive at approximately 1 o’clock when they will be offered bacon/sausage butties before going onto the green for a session of bowling. Wewill need volunteers from the Club to come along to help with this event including the Coaching and Development Teams and the Safeguarding Officers. Fees to cover the cost of this event have been agreed by the Management.
6. A suggestion has been made that perhaps the BW Ladiesleague and the NW Ladies league games could be on a set day next year for each home fixture. The suggestion is that our NWL games are played on a Tuesday and BW games are played on a Thursday. Duncan will liaise with other Fixture Secretaries to discuss this possibility, but in the meantime perhaps the league team leaders could approach the organisers of the ladies leagues to pursue a policy of fixed nights for their matches.
*Marie Greenwood announced she will not be continuing as Competition Coordinator next year.
PROPOSALS BEING CONSIDERED FOR 2024
1. A proposal for a Bowls Wiltshire Mixed Triples Leaguehas been put forward for next year. The format will be kept small at this stage to encourage smaller clubs to participate but also allowing larger clubs to enter more than one team. This is just a proposal at this stage and no firm decision has yet been made to move this forward. We have registered our interest and we will wait to hear from Bowls Wiltshire whether this will go ahead. We will let you know of any developments.
2. Men’s Friendly Matches 2024. Dave Williams, BW President and Fixtures Secretary, will soon be starting to plan the BW Men’s Friendly Matches for 2024 and will be looking for clubs to host the home fixtures. We have been asked if we would like to be considered for this.
3. BWL v Devizes Ladies. As Bev Lilley will be President of Bowls Wiltshire Ladies next year we hope to arrange a fixture between Bowls Wiltshire Ladies and Devizes Ladies as part of her Presidents Year. We will give her all the support and help we can. Good luck Bev.
4. Friendlies 2024. We are considering whether to keep Friendlies just to local clubs next year due to the difficulty in raising numbers to fulfil fixtures which involve more than an hour in travelling. This will be an ongoing discussion. Duncan will evaluate the request for friendlies for 2024 as they come in.
