Last night the Four Rink League brought their 2017 season to a close with an emphatic 111 shots to 49 win over local rivals Pewsey Vale. All Rinks had good wins, on Rink 3 Alan Sims, Dave Greenwood, Terry Miles & Pete Fielding won 33-10, on Rink 4 Mike Alexander, Will Wrobel, Chris Merrifield & Colin Little won 27-17, on Rink 5 Keith Scrannage, Ken Curtis, Trefor Jones & Gerald Webb won 25-12 and finally on Rink 6 Peter Romijn, Ken Surman, Dave Reeves & Matt Thomson won 26-10. So a 14 nil win meaning than the club finished eighth in the Southern Area league.
The Four Rink League match against Warminster was a close affair although it was a 10 – 2 victory. On Rink 1 Alan Sims, Keith Scrannage, Trefor Jones & Gerald Webb started well and were 8 – 3 up after 5 ends but then lost the next 6 ends to be 14 – 8 down. Picking up a 5 on the end 20 it brought the scores level but the visitors picked up the one shot on the last end to secure victory. On Rink 2 Pete Romijn, Robin Drake, Dave Reeves & Matt Thompson were 10 – 2 up at 11 ends but then conceded the lead over the next 5 ends to be 11 – 10 down. They pick up one shot on the last end to tie the score. On Rink 3 Will Wrobel, John Scoffield, Jonathan Cook & Colin Little were always in control of their match with a 25 – 7 victory which not only secured a rink win but the aggregate score as well. on Rink 4 Peter Charters, Chris Merrifield, Steve Mulligan & Pete Feilding were in a close game all the way through and like rink 2 picked up one on the last end to draw the rink. So an 2 82 – 65 aggregate score. Next week the team travels to Corsham.
On Wednesday 21 June Devizes played away against Box in the Wilts Four Rink League. On Rink 2, P Romijn, D Greenwood, D Reeves and Mat Thompson were off to a flying start only losing 1 of the first ten ends and were 14-1 in front. Nothing changed in the next 11 ends and they ran out emphatic winners 26-4. On Rink 3, W Wrobel, J Scoffield, J Cook and C Little also started well and were 11-0 in front at 7 ends, but then the game changed around and at 15 ends they were only 13-12 in front but they finished well winning 20-14. On Rink 4, P Charters, T Mullins, S Mulligan and P Fielding were playing a triple and got off to a bad start being 0-9 down after 5 ends. They came back very well and were 17-22 down with 1 end to go. Unfortunately they dropped 1 shot on the last end with a close measure and with the score adjustment because of the triple lost 17-17.25. On Rink 5, A Sims, K Scrannage, T Jones and G Webb started well and were 15-4 up at 10 ends but then things went against them but they hung on to win 19-15. The match result was a win for Devizes by 82-50.25 on shots and 12-2 on points.
In the Wilts 4RL on Wednesday 31 May Devizes played at home to Spencer Moulton. On Rink 1, J Cook, J Scofield, C Merrifield and C Little were 4 shots down after 4 ends and they finished 4 shots down losing 17-21. On Rink 2, P Romijn, D Greenwood, S Mulligan and Mat Thompson were never in front and lost 14-21. On Rink 3, K Oliver, R Drake, D Reeves and P Fielding also were never in front and lost 15-28. On Rink 4, A Sims, M Mitcham, T Jones and G Webb were in a close game throughout and finished winning 19-17. The match result was a loss for Devizes by 65-87 on shots and 2-12 on points.
On Wednesday 7 June Devizes played away to Winsley in the Wilts 4RL. On Rink 2, P Romijn, D Greenwood, D Reeves and Mat Thompson started well, being 5-2 up after 2 ends and at 14 ends were level 12-12 but then it went downhill, losing 15-20. On Rink 3, A Sims, M Mitcham, R Drake and T Jones won more ends but dropped too many big counts and lost 16-27. On Rink 4, P Charters, K Oliver, S Mulligan and P Fielding were never in the game, losing 7 of the first 8 ends and finished up losers by 13-33. On Rink 5, W Wrobel, J Scofield, J Cook and C Little were always in front from end 2 and won 18-10. The result was a loss for Devizes by 62-90 on shots and 2-12 on points.
On Wednesday 14 June in the Wilts 4RL Devizes played at home to Chippenham Park. Devizes started badly and were 8 shots down after 1 end. On Rink 1, P Romijn, D Greenwood, D Reeves and Mat Thompson dropped 5 shots on the first end and were never in front losing 13-23. On Rink 2, P Charters, K Oliver, S Mulligan and P Fielding also started badly and were losing 2-7 after 5 ends and 3-14 after 10 ends. They did recover in the next 11 ends but still lost 18-21. On Rink 3, A Sims, K Scrannage, R Drake and T Jones also started badly and were 0-6 down after 2 ends. The difference was the same after 10 ends and also after 15 ends with the score 14-19, but they won 5 of the remaining 6 ends and drew 20-20. On Rink 4, W Wrobel, J Scofield, J Cook and C Little were in control from the start and were winning 18-3 after 10 ends and completed a very good win by 29-9. The match result was a welcome win for Devizes by 80-73 on shots and 9-5 on points.
In the Wilts Four Rink League on Wednesday 24 May Devizes played away to Salisbury. This was a similar game and result to the previous 4RL game, a game of two halves. P Romijn, D Greenwood, S Mulligan and Matt Thompson were close at 10 ends with the score 8-7 and in the next 11 ends scored 3 shots on 3 ends and a 5 on another but also dropped a 6 on one end but won 25-17. P Charters, W Wrobel, D Reeves and P Fielding were also in a close game with the score 7-6 after 10 ends and it continued close and resulted in a win 18-15. J Cook, K Oliver, C Merrifield and C Little lost the first 5 ends and never recovered losing 12-29. A Sims, M Mitcham, R Drake and T Jones were 9-8 up after 10 ends but then lost the next 8 ends and eventually lost 13-28. The result was a loss for Devizes by 68-89 on shots and 4-10 on points.
Also in the Wilts Four Rink League played at home to Trowbridge Westbourne on Friday 26 May in a re-arranged a game from the previous wet Wednesday. On Rink 1, J Cook, J Scofield, C Merrifield and C Little took an early lead and were 12-8 after 10 ends and also won the next 10 ends by a similar margin winning 25-16. On Rink 2, P Romijn, D Greenwood, S Mulligan and Matt Thompson were 12-5 up after 10 ends and finished strongly winning 25-9. On Rink3, A Sims, M Mitcham, T Jones and G Webb lost the first 4 ends and were 0-6 down but at 10 ends had taken the lead 13-9 and they also finished strongly winning 28-14. On Rink 4, P Charters, W Wrobel, D Reeves and P Fielding made a good start and were 14-5 up after 10 ends and maintained the lead winning 23-12. The result was a win for Devizes 101-51 on shots and 14-0 on points.
On Wednesday 10 May Devizes played their first game remembered against Spencers Melksham in the Wilts 4RL. The game was played at Spencers and was a game of two halves. On Rink 2, P Charters, W Wrobel, D Reeves and P Fielding scored 1 shot on the first end but then it went downhill and they lost 9-32. On Rink 3, M Mitcham, K Oliver, C Merrifield and C Little won the first 2 ends but then lost the next 8 ends and did not recover losing 11-30. On Rink 4, A Sims, R Drake, T Jones and G Webb were in a close game at 10 ends with the score 9-7 but then gained a big advantage winning 32-12. On Rink 5, P Romijn, D Greenwood, S Mulligan and Mat Thompson took an early lead and were leading 13-3 after 10 ends and then kept the scores even winning 23-15. The match result was a loss for Devizes by 75-89 on shots and 4-10 on points.
With the continuing heavy rain and with bowlers welfare in mind both greens are now closed for the day (Wednesday 17th May). This means that both the Four Rink League match against Trowbridge Westbourne and the Norwest League Match against North Wilts Red Devils have been postponed. Hopefully, weather permitting, the Top Green will be open tomorrow.
The Four Rink League side played their first home game of the season against Amesbury on a cold blustery evening. The match was a close affair all through and with 4 ends to go the match could have gone either way but Devizes came good to win on 3 rinks and with an aggregate score of 93 shots to 84 won the match 12-2. Next week they travel to Spencer Melksham.,
On 26 April Devizes returned to the Wilts Four Rink League with an away game at Chippenham Town. The result was not good for Devizes, losing 2-12 on points and 55-89 on shots. Mike Mitcham, Ken Oliver, Chris Merrifield and Colin Little took the lead on the second end and were never behind from then, winning 19-10. Peter Romijn, Dave Greenwood, Steve Mulligan and Matt Thompson lost the first five ends and never recovered but held their own, losing 13-19. Peter Charters, Terry Miles, Dave Reeves and Peter Fielding were never in front, losing 14-27. Willy Wrobel, Keith Scrannage, Robin Drake and Trefor Jones won the first end, but it was downhill after that, losing 9-33.
