AUTUMN RENOVATIONS 2024

What a team!

This year we had the challenge to complete the Autumn Renovations for the 2 greens, seeking windows of opportunity in the weather and relying on the team spirit of  a group of more than 18 volunteer members of our club.

This week we tackled both greens, moving 10 tonnes of top dressing by hand and that was just the beginning. Spreading fertiliser and grass seed followed by the top dressing and levelling with the lute. In all we spent over 12 hours to complete this task and even managed to put into storage the benches and ditch mats for the winter.

This was a fantastic achievement demonstrating what it means to be a true member of a club.

We hope you will enjoy the result of this work next season !

Race Night Success!

The Social Group’s first event was an end of season race night, and what a fabulous success it was. A sell out crowd of 82 guests, dined on excellent pizzas from Woodland Pizza kitchen, had 8 great races with some nail biting finishes, and a roaring crowd that shook the rafters.

All of this couldn’t have been done without the help of our volunteer group, so a huge thank you goes out to the Tote staff of Julie, Nicki (who made our rosettes as well), Nigel, Mike & Jill, plus Kelvin on “tech support”, Dave on transport, and the multitude of other members who have been behind us 100%.

Lastly a huge thank you to the group’s other half’s who have been to hell and back putting up with the four of us!

Next stop, The Christmas Party on 30th November!!

Devizes in Bloom Success!

Congratulations to Colin Smith for maintaining our floral displays!

Your work has earned us 2nd place in the Clubs & Societies category…

Accompanied by our President, Colin received the award from Deputy Mayor, Cllr Jennie Britten at the Town Hall.

Floodlit Bowls

The Floodlit Bowls on Wednesday was a great success.  Although It was a little bit chilly, everyone seemed to ignore the cold and just concentrate on finding the jack!!  A bit difficult at times but that was the aim of the game!!

We are grateful to Sydenhams for providing lighting, and also to Kelvin who backed this up with extra floodlights to make the event possible.

A fish and chip supper rounded off the evening and a big thank you goes to Ricky and Terry for running the Bar.  All in all a great sociable evening.

Monday Afternoon Roll Ups

The last Monday afternoon roll up session for this season was held yesterday.  It was well attended and members were treated to a cream tea afterwards.

The Monday afternoon sessions have been a new venture this season.  The sessions are open to all members but have particularly benefited the members who find it difficult to attend evening sessions and also find it challenging to play 18 ends. It has proved to be a very successful format and we are hoping to make it part of the Fixture list again next year.

The sessions have been very relaxed and friendly which is just what we were hoping for. Thank you to all the members who have made this the success it has proved to be. You have all been fantastic.
