19 Dead jack
19.4 If the jack is dead, the end is a dead end and law 20 will apply.
20 Dead end
20.1 A dead end is not counted as a completed end even if all the bowls required to be played have been played.
20.2 A dead end must be replayed in the same direction unless the skips or opponents in Singles agree to play it in the opposite direction. (If the jack and bowls need to be transferred to the opposite end of the rink before the end is replayed, they must be transferred in a way which avoids distracting players on neighbouring rinks.)

19.5 Alternatively, Controlling Bodies can decide not to have the end declared dead. Instead, the jack must be placed with the nearest point of the jack to the mat line at the appropriate re-spot position described in either law 56.5.2 or 56.5.3, or as close as possible as described in law 56.5.4, and play must continue.
THE QUESTION June 2023
Ok picture the scene, you are away at another club there are 3 rinks in use for our competition.
During the match one of our rinks is holding its own, they are ahead just , we are on end 16 the opposing skip is the last to play his last bowl we are holding 5 shots.
Then whoops !! their skip squeezes the jack sideways out of the head and it ends up on the left hand adjacent rink !
Everyone shouts “Dead end” and all 3 rinks have an opinion on what to do next but
QUESTION
All agree the Jack is dead but do you
- Declare the end dead, but count the end as completed with no score recorded
- Declare the end dead and play it again but from the same end
- Not declare the end dead but re spot the Jack.
- Not declare the end dead but replace the jack at a point agreed to have been where it was struck
