Devizes Bowls Club

President’s Day

Thank you to everyone who braved the rain and came along to support my President’s Day. The weather prevented any bowling, but a back-up plan had already been put in place in the form of a ‘Name that Tune’ quiz.  This was professionally presented by one of our new members, Wayne Dicker, and had the room buzzing as well as singing.

The meal afterwards was ham salad followed by a delicious dessert of strawberry meringues and cream.  Thanks must go to Sue Reeves and her team of helpers for all the hard work which went into preparing this. The Bar was busy but expertly manned by Sheila, Terry and Ricky.  What more could I have ask for on a wet and windy President’s Day?

This marks the end of another successful outdoor season.  Winter well and enjoy your indoor/short mat bowling.

MID WILTS TRIPLES LEAGUE

Congratulations to the B team in the Mid Wilts Triples League.

Following their win on Thursday they have ended the season at the top of the Premier Division. This is a well deserved and impressive achievement. Every member who has played for the team should feel really proud!

A ‘feather in the cap’ for the team leaders, Terry Miles and Colin Shewring, who we hear are ‘over the moon’!

Well done everybody.

Finals Weekend 2025

Despite some dreary weather, particularly on Saturday, the bowls over the weekend was anything but! We witnessed incredibly close and competitive games that truly captivated the spectators. Congratulations to all the winners and runners-up! Thank you for providing such a fantastic display of bowls from start to finish.

Here’s the full list of results:

I would also like to extend a huge thank you to the many people who supported in making the weekend a success: the ladies in the kitchen for providing refreshments, the bar staff for keeping us watered, the members for setting up all the kit, and the markers for generously giving their time.

This year we will be holding a presentation evening on October 11th to officially hand the trophies over to the winners and runners-up. Please keep an eye out for further details and sign-up sheets at the club.

Best regards,

Matt Thompson

Well done Captains !

Disability Bowls England Game

The Disability Bowls England game was a great success today and everyone had a very enjoyable afternoon. The atmosphere was very upbeat and jolly, and although there was a range of quite severe disabilities amongst the DBE players it certainly didn’t deter their determination.  It was heartwarming to watch.  The fact we lost didn’t matter as the Devizes team took it all in good part and the camaraderie became the most important aspect of the day.  Thank you to all the Devizes members who played and made it the success it proved to be.

A very BIG thank you to the catering team – Jane Thompson, Sue Coombes-Daniels, Vron Hams, Babs Galloway and Helen Abbots-Darbyshire for providing a first class tea, and also Sheila Turner and Terry Miles for manning the Bar.  Thank you also to the members who made such delicious cakes and  thank you to our President, David Greenwood, who came along to meet and greet the players.

Devizes Bowls Club was showcased at its best, you should all feel very proud.
